SYPNOPSIS
All-around the most horrific weather in the world. That is the title Peter Crane claimed for the place where he earns his daily bread, the Mt. Washington Observatory in New Hampshire. I had called Crane to set up a winter visit to the only mountaintop weather station operated year round in North America, and asked him just what was the distinction that had earned the station its reputation for extremity. I later made a winter visit to the summit to experience the site in person and to learn why Mt. Washington’s weather is so bad.
